What is Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride and why is it the first ingredient?

Composed of glycerin, caprylic and capric fatty acids, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides serves several purposes in our formula.  More than any other oil, its silky spreadability allows the beneficial components of our serum to readily absorb into the skin.  It also acts as the solvent for our in-house herbal extracts. After trialling many different mediums, we determined that Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides are the most efficacious suspension for housing the powerful compounds in our plants. 

Is there added fragrance?

We do not add fragrance as it can potentially cause irritation for many with sensitive skin. The Clarity Oil has a neutral smell from its natural oils, plant extracts and actives.

Are there any wheat, soy or dairy products in The Clarity Oil? Does it contain GMO's?

The Clarity Oil is Non-GMO. It does not contain any derivatives from wheat or dairy. The tocopherol (Vitamin E) is derived from non-GMO soy.

Is The Clarity Oil palm-oil free?

Yes. Almost all Caprylic Capric/Triglycerides are derived at least partly from palm oil but we were able to source completely palm-oil free Caprylic Capric Triglyceride. Our active ingredients are also palm-oil free.

Does The Clarity Oil contain coconut oil?

Our Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides are derived from coconut. It is a vastly different ingredient than coconut oil and will not clog pores. Unlike coconut oil which contains all of coconut's fatty acids, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a very specialized ingredient with specific skin loving fatty acid esters.

Is your bisabolol sustainable?

We source our bisabolol from a supplier that has FSC certification for sustainable stewardship of the candeia tree and has implemented a sustainable program for management, traceability, harvest and continued propagation.

Is your bakuchiol sustainable?

We work with a dedicated supplier that is in full compliance with Nagoya standards and utilizes a benefit sharing program to ensure sustainable harvesting. Conservation is of the utmost importance to us and our supplier. 

Product / Process

Are your oils refined?

To different degrees, yes. We never refine our oils to extend shelf life like many manufacturers do. Over years of trialling our oils and different refining methods, we found that some perform better on skin after the removal of certain undesirable compounds. For example, hemp seed oil contains a great deal of chlorophyll, which acts as a pro-oxidant when exposed to light. We found by delicately removing chlorophyll, our hemp oil performed much better on skin. We use only food grade activated charcoal from FSC certified hardwood and coconut shells. We only refine an oil to improve its efficacy and to enhance its function in The Clarity Oil.

Why does The Clarity Oil cost what it does?

We wanted to control our supply chain in order to ensure the freshest, highest integrity product: one grown sustainably, without exploitative labor practices, that contributes to soil biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. To that end, we decided to grow every ingredient that we can on our farm. Rather than buying pre-made oils from cosmetic companies where they are often stored and allowed to age and degrade, we carefully vet our seed sources and press them on demand to yield the highest quality oils. For any ingredient that we do not grow or extract ourselves, we partner with conscious suppliers that are also devoted to sustainability and quality. Our commitment to regenerative practices is higher cost and much more labor intensive, but we've seen the huge difference it makes in quality and efficacy.

Can you use The Clarity Oil with retinol?

Yes. The Clarity Oil is soothing, calming and is a great product to help mitigate the drying and flaking effects of retinol.  

Can you use The Clarity Oil with acids?

Yes. Due to the calming and barrier replenishing nature of The Clarity Oil it complements exfoliating products beautifully.

Is the Clarity Oil safe for use during pregnancy?

We recommend consulting with your physician prior to using The Clarity Oil during pregnancy.  

How should I use The Clarity Oil in my skincare routine?

We recommend using The Clarity Oil after cleansing with a gentle, ph-balanced cleanser and applying a toner, essence or ph balanced serum. If additional moisturization is needed, we recommend using The Clarity Oil after your cream or moisturizer. If you are using retinol, we recommend applying it after retinol.

What skin type is The Clarity Oil good for? It is suitable for acne-prone skin?

The Clarity Oil is designed for all skin types, but optimized especially for acne-prone skin. Our formula contains powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients like violet extract, calendula extract, and bisabolol to calm active breakouts, as well as antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and annatto, which help regulate the free radicals that can further exacerbate acne. Additional oils high in linoleic and omega-3 bring balance by moisturizing the skin without weighing it down.

How long until I see results?

Some effects like smoothing and plumping are visible as soon as the first application. With consistent use over four to six weeks, the skin continues to brighten, smooth, and calm. The most noticeable results appear after 12 weeks of regular application.

How should I store The Clarity Oil?

For maximum benefits, The Clarity Oil should be used within 9 months of opening. Store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. We do not recommend refrigeration, as it will negatively alter the texture of the oil.

Is the Clarity Oil safe to use around eyes?

Yes. The Clarity Oil has been clinically tested for safety around the eyes and works wonderfully to soothe and moisturize around the eyes.  It can be used in place of eye creams or layered with eye creams for an extra moisturizing boost.  

Is the Clarity Oil tested on animals? Is it vegan?

We do not test on animals and do not use any ingredients that have been tested on animals. All of our ingredients are vegan.

Packaging

Do you use plastic in your bottle packaging and shipping packaging?

We do not use any plastic in the shipping packaging. We ship in recycled cardboard boxes printed with carbon negative algae ink and recyclable kraft paper tape with corn starch adhesive. We use compostable FSC certified aspen excelsior for fill. Our bottles are glass with a small plastic orifice reducer that is recyclable hdpe #2 and cap that is recyclable pp #5. We are working to eliminate all plastic from our product packaging and hope to offer this in the near future.

Orders, Shipping, Returns

Do you offer Gift Box options?

Yes, there is a gift box option you may select at checkout, which comes with a handwritten card. Please leave the recipient and sender names in the notes.

Do you ship internationally?

At this time we are only able to ship within the United States.

How much is shipping? Do you offer expedited shipping?

We offer free priority domestic shipping on all full-size (1 oz) bottles. You have the option of expediting your shipment for an additional fee at checkout.

When will my order ship?

Orders are processed within 1-2 business days.

What is your return policy?

Due to the labor that goes into each bottle as well as the high cost of our premium ingredients, we are not able to accept returns. If you have sensitive skin or are unsure how your skin may react, we recommend trialling with the 4 ml bottle first. The 4 ml bottle comes with a 10% off code to put towards your purchase of a full-size 30 ml bottle. You may also contact us at customercare@milaclarity.com before purchasing. Can I make changes or cancel my order after it has been placed?

If you need to make a change to your order, please email us immediately at customercare@milaclarity.com. We will do our best to accommodate you, but we fulfill orders rapidly and may not be able to intercept outgoing packages in time to make changes. If the package is already en route, the return policy will be in effect.

What if my package is damaged?

We take every measure to ensure your package arrives safely.  In the event that your package arrives damaged please contact customercare@milaclarity.com for assistance. Include name, order number and a photo of damaged goods. If your packages are typically delivered in an unsecure location please select signature confirmation during checkout.
